Culture Minister Constantinos Tasoulas told radio station Parapolitika on Monday that the identity of the person who is buried in the Amphipolis tomb can only be revealed through the excavation itself.

Mr. Tasoulas explained that his earlier statement on private MEGA TV channel had been misinterpreted: “I only said that there are no written records about the location where Alexander the Great is buried. I never said that the tomb does not belong to Alexander the Great,” he clarified.

“The archaeological findings will reveal who is buried at the Amphipolis Tomb and not the Minister of Culture,” he added, saying he fully agrees with the culture ministry’s general secretary Lina Mendoni, who believes that the discussions regarding the identity of the tomb’s occupant are pointless.

It should be noted that in an interview with MEGA earlier, the Culture Minister had referred to historic sources concerning the location where Alexander the Great was buried, while noting that the grandeur of the Casta Tumulus is proof that its tenant was an important person.
