The managing director of ATTICA ROUTES SA, Vassilis Chalkias has resigned from his post following the “big fiasco” of Attiki Odos.
In a statement, Chalkias stated that after the end of the operations to free the last drivers trapped on the highway, he felt the need to facilitate the company, submitting his resignation.
The government had accused the company over the serious problems caused on Attiki Odos during the snowstorm via the government spokesman – but also through the Minister of Transport Costas Karamanlis – who pointed out the responsibilities of the company that failed to prevent the trapping of hundreds of drivers inside the highway during the bad weather “Elpis”. The freeing of all the trapped motorists was completed late Tuesday afternoon.
Karamanlis announced the formation of a special committee that would take shed light on the issue of sanctions against the company, based on the provisions of the law, while earlier, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had asked the company to compensate 2,000 euros for any vehicle stuck on the highway, which was immediately accepted.
