Incredible photo of snow-covered Greece from ESA Sentinel-2 satellite

The agency said the snow also caused similar chaos in Turkey

Newsroom January 27 05:58

The European Space Agency (ESA) has released a photo of snowy Athens, including the Attiki Odos (attached), taken on Tuesday (January 25th ) by the European satellite Copernicus Sentinel-2, which has a high-resolution camera.

ESA points out that “an unusual snowstorm covered parts of Turkey and Greece, causing power outages, road chaos, and flight cancellations.” It also states that “a lot of snow fell in the Greek capital for more than 12 hours on January 24, leaving thousands of car drivers immobilised on Attiki Odos, with those who were not rescued having to endure temperatures down to -14 degrees, as night fell.”
