Greek Foreign Minister Dendias sends strict message to Turkish President Erdogan

Dendias called on Turkey to stop undermining NATO unity

Newsroom February 16 04:41

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias sent a strict message to Ankara in response to President Erdogan’s statements that Turkey would not remain idle to Greece’s activities in the Aegean Sea, calling in the Turkish leader to refrain from making such statements.

As the Greek Foreign Minister said from Oslo, where he is, he regrets that Turkey has chosen this stance, adding that the neighbouring country “questions its own presence and commitment to NATO.”

“Turkey chooses at this time that NATO must show its unity in defending the special integrity of Ukraine, to launch threats against Greece, and questions its very presence and commitment to NATO and the Charter of the fundamental rights of the UN”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted.

Dendias reiterated that everything that Turkey says and the barrage of statements by Turkish officials are completely unacceptable and lack any legal basis.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appeared provocative again in his statements, who, speaking to reporters on a return flight from the United Arab Emirates, referred to the alleged demilitarisation of Greek islands. “We will not remain silent about military activities in the Greek islands,” said Tayyip Erdogan, hours after the Greek Parliament voted in favor of the agreement to buy 3 + 1 French Belh @ rra frigates, which are scheduled to be integrated into the Greek fleet starting in 2025.
