The Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is holding a press conference after the Summit in Brussels.

In Brussels yesterday, the European leaders during the Summit gave the “green light” to start the accession negotiations of Ukraine and Moldova in the European Union.

Regarding Turkey, the Prime Minister clarified that Athens is fully satisfied with the conclusions of the European Council, stressing once again the need for Ankara to respect the national and sovereign rights of the Member States and the cessation of tensions. He also spoke about the economy, expressing the concern of European leaders about the course of inflation.

As Mitsotakis said, there are two paths for Turkey, “that of de-escalation and dialogue and the path of provocation that will obviously lead Turkey further away from the European family, leaving open the possibility of taking further measures .”

He then described as completely non-existent the claims raised by Turkey of doubting Greek sovereignty. ” I call on Turkey to engage in dialogue to resolve the issue. We are not going to play the game of tension in rhetoric “, said Mr. Mitsotakis.

Regarding the possibility of a meeting with Tayyip Erdogan, he said that he has no problem meeting with him but that it depends on the Turkish president. “I did not interrupt the communication channels,” he said.
