Female Naval cadet, 19, unexpectedly dies of unknown causes

She was at sea on a training course

Newsroom August 25 11:12

A female naval cadet died suddenly during the Summer Training Course of the Naval Cadet School, the Naval General Staff announced.

158 cadets participated in the sailing training on two ships, the frigate “Kanaris” and the general support ship “Prometheus” (the largest ship in the fleet).

The 19-year-old cadet, who had just finished her first year of school, was aboard the “Prometheus”.

On Tuesday, she developed a fever and was immediately given anti-fever medicine and antibiotics, but the symptoms persisted. The two ships were headed for Naples, however, due to the girl’s illness, the course of the ships was sped up. As soon as they arrived in the Italian city, the cadet was admitted to the hospital.
