Turkish offshore vessel tries to ram a Hellenic Coast Guard vessel – Shots fired by the Greeks (video)

Immediately after the warning shots were fired, the Turkish vessel left the scene with a coastguard officer shouting "come back if you dare"

Newsroom February 2 09:45

A video has surfaced of the recent episode in Farmakonisi between a Turkish and Greek coast guard vessels that occurred on Thursday, January 5.

In the video, it appears that the Turkish vessel make a series of dangerous maneuvers with the aim of ramming the Greek vessel, whose crew proceeded to fire warning shots.

Immediately after the warning shots were fired, the Turkish vessel left the scene with a coastguard man shouting “come back if you dare”.

The images are representative of the serious provocation on behalf of Turkey, which is seeking a crisis that will set “fire” in the Aegean Sea.

It all happened on Thursday, January 5, 2023. A vessel of the Hellenic Coast Guard rushed to the sea area southeast of Farmakonissi, within Greek territorial waters, in order to identify three Turkish fishing vessels.

The Greek fishermen informed the port authorities about the movements of the Turks and the reaction was immediate. A patrol boat of the Hellenic Coast Guard sailed into the maritime area to approach the three Turkish vessels that had invaded Greek territorial waters under the supervision of a Turkish Coast Guard vessel. Initially the Turks attempted to drive the Greek vessel away from the area and then they attempted to ram it. The Hellenic Coast Guard crew was forced to fire warning shots the Coast Guard said, forcing the Turkish vessel to leave and head east toward the Turkish coast.

In recent months, the number of border incidents with Turkish offshore vessels related to violations of Greek territorial waters amounts to over 50 at the wider area of the eastern Aegean from the Evros Delta to the island of Megisti.
