Newsroom February 8 08:18

Greek rescuers of the 1st EMAK in Hatay, one of the most suffering provinces of Turkey, were involved in yet another battle against time, where they struggled for hours to extricate a 20-year-old woman from under the debris and finally succeeded.

Rescuers made superhuman efforts to free the 20-year-old, who had been under the rubble for more than 48 hours. They provided the young woman with oxygen and everything else she needed, while at the same time giving her the courage to continue.

20-year-old Ayrin earlier asked the rescuers to amputate her leg in order to free her.

Earlier the Greek rescuers also managed to free another child who was found alive in the ruins. The Greek firefighters heard the child’s voice and rushed to reach him, managing to get close to the place where he is trapped.

According to information from the Fire Brigade, the Greek rescuers witnessed a scene that shocked them, as the child is under the body of his mother, who showed no signs of life and who probably tried to protect her child when the slab of the house fell on them.

The debris from the house and the mother’s body trapped the child’s leg, and rescuers’ efforts were focused on removing the debris and extricating it.

However, the efforts were interrupted by a strong aftershock that forced the group to leave the ruins for a while, on the order of the group leaders, so that their lives would not be in danger.

However, the operation has started again and is in full swing with the hope that it will have a happy ending for the child, who is contacting the EMAK men.

It is noted that the child is the fifth person, along with the 50-year-old and three other children, who were rescued alive by the Hellenic Rescue Mission.

The work of the Greek rescuers

Battle against time is given by the rescuers of the Greek team of EMAK in the province of Hatay (Hatay) north of the city of Antioch in Turkey who have been severely hit by the blizzard. Thanks to their tenacity, training, their professionalism, their humanity, and selflessness with which they do this work, they have freed alive a 50-year-old man, a 9-year-old girl, and a 7-year-old girl, while a girl has been retrieved unconscious. The images of the efforts of the Greek rescuers, their emotion but also their pain over the death of little Fatme, have gone around the world.

Search and rescue operations continue unabated. Weather conditions are making the work of people who with their bare hands unearth their relatives extremely difficult, as they continue their search undaunted and determined.

On Wednesday morning, in fact, the Greek rescuers managed to rescue a 15-year-old teenager from the area of Hatay. “All the rescued people have come out inch by inch, our guys are digging with their hands,” said the Fire Brigade press representative when announcing the fourth rescue by Greek rescuers in Turkey.

Unfortunately, EMAK officials have recovered three dead people: a little girl on Tuesday and on Wednesday night a boy of about 17 years, and a man of about 40 years.

Meanwhile, this morning it was announced that Greece is sending a second team of 15 EMAK men who will travel to Turkey on an Air Force aircraft that will take off from an airport in Northern Greece.

As announced by the press representative of the Fire Department, the team of 15 men of EMAK will also have with them a Belgian shepherd called Talos, for which he said that “he is a valuable companion because the sense of smell of the quadruped helps to locate the trapped”.

The second Greek team will also include three EKAV executives as the medical staff.
