The rapid spread of the Ebola virus in not only alarming to the residents of Western Africa and the Western World, but also to the international scientific community that didn’t expect the outbreak to affect such a large area.
According to Thomas Frieden, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the world needed to work fast so it did not become” the next Aids.”
Dr. Frieden made this statement at a World Bank Forum in New York and stressed that in the 30 years he has been working in public health, the only thing like this has been AIDS.
The outbreak has killed more than 3,860 people, mainly in West Africa, including more than 200 health workers.
