Most Booked Online Services in Selected Countries (infograhic)

What's the Most Popular Service to Book Online?

Newsroom September 20 11:24

Despite grocery delivery having made it to the mainstream in the last couple of years, the service was only the most popular one to book online in five countries out of 56 surveyed by Statista Consumer Insights between 2022 and 2023. All five countries – Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Turkey, and Russia – are in Asia, and in two, grocery delivery shared rank one with restaurant delivery – without a doubt still the most popular service to book online around the world.

In Vietnam, 41 percent of respondents said they had ordered groceries online in the past 12 months, compared to 35 percent who had restaurant food delivered (the second most popular option). In Singapore and Indonesia, 40 percent and 46 percent, respectively, said they had done either – the joint most popular choice.

Restaurant delivery reigned supreme as the most popular online service in much of Europe, the Americas, and Asia while also beating grocery delivery by some margin in India and China. India is an outlier as many people still opt for offline grocery delivery. 48 percent had groceries delivered by online booking, while 60 percent said they had groceries delivered by any means. Online restaurant delivery booking stood at 51 percent of respondents.

There are however also some countries that don’t fit this mold. In nations that order very little online, including some in Eastern, Southern, and Northern Europe, event bookings were the most common online service. In African countries Kenya and Nigeria, bookings for education and learning services won out. In Morocco, only a third of people is yet reached by online food delivery – still the most common online service to book.
