Earthquake 4,9 Richter in Dardanelles: Fears a major earthquake in Constantinople, seismologists say

Turkey worries for an earthquake greater than 7 Richter - These small tremors "gradually break the faults and lead to major earthquakes"

Newsroom March 5 01:00

The strong earthquake of 4.9 Richter that occurred last night in Dardanelles has caused great concern in Turkey.

Seismologists who have commented on the issue express fears that this powerful tremor may be a precursor to a major earthquake expected in Constantinople.

“Our region is worried about an earthquake greater than 7 Richter, south of the Sea of Marmara or in the Anatolian fault, it will be an earthquake that will affect the entire area of Constantinople, Prusa, Dardanelles, etc.,” said seismologist Suleyman Pampal, as reported by SKAI.

Another seismologist, Hussein Ozturk, warned from his side: “From now on, every earthquake is a precursor to the major earthquake we expect in Constantinople. These small earthquakes gradually break the faults and lead to major earthquakes. It’s like a preparation. It opens up the big fault that will occur. These earthquakes are the signs of the big earthquake.”
