Alert in Denmark: Defective missile was used in a military exercise, airspace closed

Ships were advised to avoid part of the narrow Great Belt due to the possibility of falling missile fragments

Newsroom April 4 06:05

The Danish authorities are on high alert following a failed missile launch on a navy ship. The event has caused airspace and shipping lanes shutdown near a key shipping lane off the Danish coast.

The country’s Maritime Authority has issued a warning to ships to avoid part of the Great Belt strait due to the risk of falling missile fragments. Ships were asked to drop anchor if necessary.

In a statement, the Danish military said the missile problem occurred “during a scheduled test where the missile launcher is activated and cannot be deactivated.”
