Unexpected trend: Greek car market defies tax hurdles with strong sales of high-displacement vehicles

March sales report reveals 16 cars over 3,000 cc sold, defying expectations in a shifting automotive landscape

Newsroom April 9 05:43

In a delightful twist, Greece’s automotive landscape witnessed an unexpected surge in the sale of high-displacement vehicles in March, despite the hefty taxes levied on such cars.

While taxes on vehicles with large engines may have soared, this didn’t deter enthusiasts from getting behind the wheel of their dream rides.

As reported by Newsauto just days ago, Greece experienced a slight dip in new car registrations in March compared to the same period last year.

Registrations reached 12,486 units, a notable decrease from the 13,335 units recorded in March 2023, representing a 6.4% drop.

Yet, amidst this slight decline in overall registrations, a notable trend emerged – the resilient appeal of high-displacement vehicles.

Despite the market downturn, consumers demonstrated a continued interest in powerful cars, defying expectations and adding excitement to Greece’s evolving automotive scene.

One might assume that with the rise of electric cars in our lives, the allure of traditional, combustion-engine vehicles would fade. However, it seems that there’s still a special place in the hearts of car aficionados for the roar of powerful engines and the thrill of horsepower.

Despite the punitive tax regime imposed on cars with large cubic capacities, these vehicles continue to pique the interest of consumers.

It appears that for some, cubic capacity remains a coveted feature.

Delving into the sales figures for March, a total of 16 cars with engine displacements exceeding 3,000 cubic centimeters were registered.

Among them, standout models from renowned brands like Jaguar, BMW, Porsche, and Mazda made their mark.

At the forefront of this trend was the Jaguar F-Pace, boasting an impressive 5,000 cc engine. The allure of British engineering coupled with raw power undoubtedly captured the attention of discerning buyers.

Not to be outdone, BMW showcased its prowess with models like the XM, X5, and X6, each boasting engine displacements ranging from 3,000 to a staggering 4,395 cc.

These vehicles represent the epitome of luxury and performance in the automotive world.

Meanwhile, Porsche enthusiasts found solace in models like the iconic 911 GT3 and the powerful Cayenne Turbo, reaffirming the brand’s legendary status in the realm of high-performance cars.

Rounding off the list were two Mazda CX-60 models, showcasing the Japanese manufacturer’s commitment to innovation and engineering excellence. With an engine displacement of 3,283 cc, the CX-60 delivers a perfect balance of power and refinement.
