The 10 appearances that stood out at this year’s Cannes Festival

From Bella Hadid's nude look to Cate Blanchett's political statement dress

Newsroom May 27 03:51

The Croisette shone once again with the stardust brought by numerous stars on the red carpet. The Cannes Film Festival equivalent of glitz and glamour, attracted actors, models, singers, professional athletes, and artists, making it one of the most exclusive events of the spring season. While it is fundamentally a cinephile competition, the festival plays the role of a high-profile fashion show.

This year’s event featured unforgettable looks, some with political messages or religious symbols, and others simply stunning for their beauty. Here are ten standout appearances:

1. Lily Gladstone: The Oscar-nominated actress wore a Balenciaga dress inspired by the house’s fall 1959 haute couture collection.

2. Anya Taylor-Joy: At the screening of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” she wore a champagne strapless Dior gown, accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, inspired by classic Hollywood.

3. Naomi Campbell: The supermodel wore a dress she had donned nearly 30 years earlier, from the Chanel Fall/Winter 1996-97 haute couture show, adorned with thousands of black sequins.

4. Cate Blanchett: Blanchett made a political statement by wearing a dress in the colors of the Palestinian flag, showing solidarity with Gaza.

5. Bella Hadid: Hadid wore a nude dress with a plunging neckline that revealed her nipples, paired with brown heels and gold earrings for a retro look.

7. Hunter Schafer: The actress dazzled in a strapless Armani Privé gown from the Spring 2011 collection at the premiere of Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness.”

8. Selena Gomez: Gomez wore a stunning black velvet Saint Laurent gown with Bulgari jewelry at the premiere of “Emilia Perez.”

9. Greta Gerwig: Gerwig wore an Armani Privé dress and Chopard jewelry to the premiere of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” attending as both director and jury president.

10. Unidentified Woman: A woman wore a dress depicting Jesus Christ on the red carpet during the screening of “Le Comte de Monte-Cristo,” causing a stir with security personnel due to the garment’s religious significance.
