The 33-year-old woman from Albania experienced an absolute nightmare at the hands of a 27-year-old Palestinian man. After beating, raping, and stabbing her, he tied her hands and feet with a cloth, keeping her imprisoned for over 12 hours in an abandoned house in the Omonia area.

Speaking to protothema.gr, her mother emphasized the dire condition her daughter was in when she saw her. “He had stabbed her, and she had broken arms and legs. He had also hit her on the head and in the eye,” she said.

When the victim was taken to the Omonia Security Department on Monday night, she immediately recognized her abuser, who had been arrested earlier that afternoon on Sokratous Street carrying a knife.

From her testimony, the police understood that the woman did not know the 27-year-old man. However, her mother told protothema.gr that a few months ago, the 33-year-old had been abused by another foreigner.”I don’t know him. I don’t know if he’s the one my daughter met a few months ago. She mentioned meeting someone from Egypt, but now they say he’s from Palestine. I don’t know who he is,” the mother said. She added, “My daughter says she doesn’t remember what happened but might be too scared to talk.” The 33-year-old remains hospitalized in critical condition.

She does not rule out the possibility that it is the same person who attacked her child with fury in the early hours of Monday. At the same time, she describes the injuries the victim has all over her body.

The Timeline

The horrific incident began to unfold on Monday afternoon (27/5) when DIAS police officers stopped the 27-year-old suspect at the intersection of Sokratous and Xouthou Streets in Athens and found a knife in his possession. He was arrested and taken to the Omonia Security Department.

Later that evening, around 21:20, DIAS officers heard cries for help from an abandoned building on Xouthou Street. They found a locked door with a person behind it asking to be freed. Inside, they discovered the 33-year-old Albanian woman tied up and severely injured. She also had a stab wound on her left thigh.

The woman identified her attacker at the Omonia Security Department. She was given first aid and transported to “G. Gennimatas” hospital. Police found and confiscated a 22-centimeter knife and a blood-stained piece of wood at the scene.

The next day, the woman told police she didn’t know the 27-year-old and met him early Monday (27/5). They agreed to go to his house for sexual intercourse, but he attacked her, forced her to perform oral sex, and continued to beat her until she lost consciousness. She was found by police after calling for help.

The suspect was taken to the Athens Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday (28/5) and referred for a primary investigation. He is scheduled for reappearance today, Friday.
