The intervention of Supreme Court President Ioanna Klapa in the tragic case of the rape of a 14-year-old minor by the 37-year-old Roma man, who was released on parole despite the fact that he had been sentenced to 9 years in prison for raping a minor and thus proceeded to murder the 11-year-old girl in Ilia, is immediate.
In particular, the murderer of the 11-year-old girl, whose case has provoked a public reaction, was released without any particular reason despite being sentenced to 9 years in prison for rape. He was convicted by the Joint Court of Zakynthos in 2020 for the rape of a 14-year-old minor.
The court, as shown by the decision, which was immediately requested by the President of the Supreme Court Ioanna Klapa, without any particular reasoning, granted him a suspension of his sentence until he is tried by the Court of Appeal. That is to say, she released him with restrictions.
The President of the Supreme Court immediately called for disciplinary control of all three judges who were part of the composition of the court that granted the rapist the suspension, noting that there were three women on the bench, as well as the prosecutor of the trial was a woman.
The restrictive conditions imposed on the 37-year-old man by the court of Zakynthos were a ban on leaving the country, an obligation to appear at the police station of his area (prefecture of Ilia) and a ban on approaching the victim, namely the 14-year-old girl.
It should be noted that the 37-year-old is a Roma and the restrictive conditions were difficult to apply.
In addition, the Court of Appeal was set for 2022, but the trial did not take place due to the fact that he did not have a lawyer, the court appointed a lawyer and a trial date was set for last February.
However, again the trial did not take place because it coincided with the lawyer’s leave of absence and it was finally due to take place in 2025 but in the meantime the 37-year-old committed the heinous crime of murdering the unfortunate 11-year-old girl.
