Emmanouil Karalis skipped the 5.35m mark and successfully started at 5.50m. The bar was raised to 5.65m, which the 24-year-old Greek vaulter cleared with ease. He then cleared 5.75m on his first attempt, showing he was in excellent form. Although he failed his first attempt at 5.82m, he succeeded on his second try.
Karalis also cleared 5.87m on his first attempt. This is Greece’s second medal in men’s pole vault, following Christos Papanikolaou’s silver in Budapest in 1966. Additionally, it will be Greece’s third medal in Rome.
