Petit Palais: the historic cinema of Pagrati reopens as a theatre from October

Which performances and which artists will be hosted

Newsroom June 14 11:59

One of the most beloved landmarks of the social and cultural life of the area of Pagrati and the wider centre of Athens, the Petit Palais cinema, which stopped operating in 2019, will reopen, from October, as a theatre venue. Respecting the history of the venue, which opened in 1962, the theatre will retain its first logo.

Sixty-two years after its first opening, the Petit Palais is therefore being reintroduced to the public with two major theatrical productions, two top works, one from the world and one from the modern Greek repertoire, with the participation of notable artists.

In October 2024, Tennyson Williams’ Rose on the Chest will premiere, adapted and directed by Giorgis Tsouris. Maria Kavoyannis (Serafina) and Makis Papadimitriou (Alvaro) will play the leading roles. They will be joined by Zoya Sevastianou, Phoebus Rimenas, Valia Papakonstantinou, Tonia Maraki, Stratis Hadjistamatiou, Ornella Luti, Lydia Giannousaki and Katerina Mifsout.

In mid-December, “The Fiacas” by Demosthenes Misitzis, a classic comedy of our modern Greek theatre, first performed in 1870, will premiere. The play is adapted and directed by Giorgis Tsoouris and Alexandros Chrysanthopoulos and will be performed by Thanos Tokakis, Hero Bezou, Thanasis Dovris, Evangelia Karakatsani and Giorgis Tsoouris. Yoel Soto will be the musician on stage.
