Our country is known for its diverse and delicious foods, which is why the popular Taste Atlas frequently includes Greece in its lists. Various Greek dishes stand out, such as dako (a Cretan salad) which is at the top of the list of the 100 best salads in the world, paidakia (lamb chops) which is among the top five Greek lamb dishes in the world, and tzatziki which is in the top five of the 100 best dips globally.
This time, Taste Atlas has highlighted several Aegean islands, showcasing a particular dish from each. A few days ago, they did the same for Italy. For instance, the Aegina pistachio is one of the highlighted foods on their flavor map. From Kythera, they have chosen rozédes (a classic wedding sweet) and faturada (a traditional liqueur). Although most of the islands on the map are represented by a single dish, Crete stands out with multiple entries including portokalopita (orange pie), apaki (Cretan smoked pork), myzithra (a type of cheese), tsikoudia (Cretan raki), dako, sofegada (a dessert), graviera (a type of cheese), and myzithropita (cheese pie). Other islands featured on the map include Chios, Lesbos, Santorini, Mykonos, and Sifnos, among others.

The post also includes a link referring to the most popular Greek dishes, with gyro in first place and souvlaki in second. Third is moussaka, followed by village salad (horiatiki), tzatziki, pastitsio, spanakopita (spinach pie), gemista (stuffed vegetables), and greens (horta).
