Olympic Games 2024: Celine Dion and Lady Gaga to Perform at the Opening Ceremony

The famous stars will duet on Edith Piaf's "La Vie en Rose" at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics

Newsroom July 25 08:29

The Paris 2024 Organizing Committee promises many surprises for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, scheduled for Friday (July 26, 20:30, ERT 1).

The French are keeping details of the four-hour show on the River Seine a closely guarded secret.

However, one detail has leaked: Celine Dion and Lady Gaga will perform together at the Opening Ceremony.

The two stars will form a duet to sing Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose” and are likely to close the opening ceremony with their performance.

Celine Dion traveled by private jet from the US to Paris on Monday (July 22), and like Lady Gaga, is staying in a luxury hotel suite in the Champs-Élysées. According to a post by French journalist Thierry Moro, they have already rehearsed.

Dion will wear a black feathered cape designed by Dior, and her fee, according to French reports, will reach two million euros.

In December 2020, 56-year-old Celine Dion was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare chronic neurological disorder causing muscle stiffness and occasional severe spasms, which forced her to stop her live performances, the last of which was in the spring of 2020 in New York.

Dion performed “The Power of the Dream” at the Opening Ceremony in Atlanta in 1996, and rumors of her return to the Olympics have circulated since she appeared on the cover of French Vogue in April. Dion had mentioned an intense fitness regimen to regain her strength and health, stating, “I want to be the best version of myself. I want to see the Eiffel Tower again.”

The two stars will not have difficulty performing “La Vie en Rose” with a French accent. Dion was born in a French-speaking area in Quebec, while Lady Gaga also has French roots from her mother.
