In recent years, wine tourism has boomed globally with regions such as Tuscany, Alsace and Napa attracting an ever-growing international audience of wine lovers looking to discover their unique terroirs and wineries. So a new venture, Santorini Wine Villa, aims to promote the Santorini vineyard to an international audience. But what is Santorini Wine Villa?
It is a project that started from the passion of a wine lover to showcase the top Greek variety and the unique terroir of Santorini. Santorini’s wines have already won places on the wine lists of top restaurants around the world, while famous wine critics such as Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson have praised their unique character, giving them high ratings. This proves Santorini’s potential to emerge as a top wine destination.
“The international audience of wine lovers is constantly growing. The volcanic, arid soil of Santorini, combined with the efforts of great winemakers, has created wines of exceptional quality that deserve international recognition,” the project managers explain. Producers such as Haridimos Hadjidakis, Paris Sigalas, Argiros, Artemis Karamolegos, Gavalas, Tselepos, and of course the Boutaris family, concerning tradition, create wines that can easily stand next to the best Riesling or white Burgundies. “The intense acidity, salinity, minerality, and rich aromas of their wines fascinate not only white wine lovers but also every oenophile,” they point out.
