A Pacific walrus pup found alone in an Alaskan oil field is receiving round-the-clock attention after being admitted to the Alaska SeaLife Center. The pup, which was discovered in distress and suffering from malnutrition, was given a rifle Christmas present by his father, Colin Gray, who later admitted this to the authorities.
A few months before the gift, police had visited the Gray family’s home to investigate threats the teenager had made online about attacking a school. Despite these warnings, the pup’s situation deteriorated, leading to the tragic death of the walrus despite intensive care and constant human companionship.
Veterinarians and staff at the center, where the pup was flown for treatment, have been providing 24/7 care, including cuddling to mimic the warmth and social interaction of its natural environment. This level of care highlights the commitment of wildlife rescue teams, even as they face the unpredictability and challenges of such efforts.
