A forest in the Koukoulies area of Souliou was raided by illegal loggers from Albania, who crossed the border through uncontrolled crossings and cut down hundreds of trees which they took home to sell firewood.
A villager who lives permanently abroad and came to spend his holidays in his homeland in the last few days was surprised to see most of the area where a beautiful forest is located left bare and only a few piles of branches bore witness to the unprecedented looting.
The forest of towering fir trees was located on an area allegedly owned by a monastery in the area, but no one took notice of the illegal logging carried out by the foreign invaders, although they must have been operating undisturbed for several days.
