Sklavenitis: 6-Day Workweek to End Starting November 1st

Workers believe this development could pave the way for positive changes in wage labor, setting a strong precedent for the future

Newsroom September 11 10:37

The supermarket chain Sklavenitis has decided to abolish the six-day work schedule as of November 1st, as announced by the company’s Panhellenic Union of Employees.

According to the union, “As part of this, colleagues who have a six-day contract – whether they work six hours a day or six hours and forty minutes – will now have a weekly day off. Specifically, part-time (6X6) colleagues will work four seven-hour days and one eight-hour day and full-time (6X6.40) colleagues will work five eight-hour days.”

Employees note that this development may have a positive impact on the world of paid employment in the future, setting a positive example.

“This is a development which, although it exclusively concerns colleagues in our company, we believe that it may have positive consequences for the world of paid employment more generally, setting a positive example. As a fact, it sends a message of optimism and confidence to Greek society, a message similar to the one sent out by the operational employment contract we signed last December, which was the first in our country to recognize the loss – according to the legislation – three years of the period 2012 – 2023”, the statement concludes.
