King Abdullah rules out Jordan becoming an “alternative homeland” for Palestinians

The Jordanian monarch stressed that "no country can benefit from the current escalation" in the Middle East

Newsroom September 24 08:28

Accusingly, King Abdullah II of Jordan has ruled out any possibility of his country becoming an “alternative homeland” for Palestinians, stressing that Israel‘s forced displacement of populations would constitute a “war crime.”

“Let me be absolutely clear: this will never happen. We will never accept the forced displacement of Palestinians, which constitutes a war crime,” he said in his speech to the UN General Assembly, denouncing extremists who continue to propagandize about an “alternative homeland” in Jordan.

The Jordanian monarch stressed that “no country can benefit” from the current escalation in the Middle East, condemning Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip.

He also appealed to the international community to join a humanitarian aid operation aimed at providing food, drinking water, medicine and basic necessities to the besieged Gaza Strip, where nearly a year after the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas, the population is suffering.

“I urge all conscientious nations to join forces with Jordan in the critical weeks ahead to carry out this mission,” he said, stressing that “our world has failed us politically, but our humanity must not fail the people of Gaza any longer.”
