Premiere for the exotic McLaren W1

Continuing the tradition that began with the F1 and was solidified with the P1, McLaren has unveiled its latest hypercar, named the W1

Newsroom October 7 10:00

The number “1” remains a constant in the lineup of McLaren Automotive models, now preceded by the letter “W.” Together, they define the W1, the new hypercar that is the successor to the P1 and the “grandchild” of the legendary McLaren F1.

The W1 retains McLaren’s design philosophy but introduces its own identity. Its front lights, bumper, and air vents — designed to optimize aerodynamics and improve downforce — along with large side air intakes and a distinctive rear diffuser, characterize this two-seater hypercar.

McLaren’s Formula 1 team played a significant role in the design of the W1. Its monocoque chassis, dubbed McLaren Aerocell, was developed and built exclusively for this model. The same applies to its “McLaren Anhedral Doors,” created using racing car techniques. The W1 measures 4,635 mm in length, 2,074 mm in width (with folded mirrors), and 1,183 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,680 mm and a weight of 1,399 kg.

Powering the W1 is the new MHP-8 hybrid system (McLaren Hi-Performance Hybrid), consisting of a 3.988cc twin-scroll V8 engine producing 928 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque, combined with a radial flow electric motor delivering 347 horsepower and 404 Nm of torque. The total output of the hybrid system is 1,275 horsepower and 1,340 Nm of torque. According to McLaren, the W1 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 5.8 seconds, and 0-300 km/h in under 12.7 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 350 km/h.

True to McLaren’s heritage, the W1 features the new “Race Active Chassis Control III” suspension, adjustable in damping and height, and equipped with a “Race” mode, drawing on expertise from Formula 1. Some components of the front suspension are 3D printed for weight reduction, while other parts are visible and directly mounted to the chassis. Power is delivered to the rear axle via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Inside, the focus is on maximizing passenger space and material quality. McLaren’s Special Operations (MSO) division offers extensive customization options to make each W1 unique. Only 399 numbered units will be produced, with a starting price of £2,000,000 (approximately €2,400,000 at current exchange rates).
