Epicenter depth recorded at 7 km

Newsroom October 17 01:22

Two seismic tremors struck Sivas in central-eastern Turkey within ten minutes of each other, causing concern, just one day after a strong earthquake hit the neighboring province of Malatya.

The first tremor, measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 11:29 AM with an epicenter in the center of Sivas city and a focal depth of 10.57 km, according to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

A second tremor followed at 11:39 AM, with a magnitude of 4.1, the same epicenter, and a focal depth of 22.98 km.

The first tremor caused alarm in the region, as it was strongly felt due to the shallow depth, prompting residents to rush into the streets.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or damage.

The tremors occurred near the Malatya region, which was struck by a powerful 5.9 magnitude earthquake yesterday.
