Landmark legal action: First felony charge for school assault in Crete

A 16-year-old faces serious charges after a schoolyard fight left a 15-year-old with a broken tooth

Newsroom October 18 02:15

In a significant legal development, a 16-year-old student has been charged with a felony for a violent incident that occurred at a high school in inland Heraklion, Crete. The altercation resulted in a 15-year-old student being hospitalized at P.A.G.N.I. with injuries to his face, particularly to his left eye and mouth, leading to a broken tooth.

The charges against the minor include felony assault resulting in serious bodily injury against a vulnerable person—specifically, another minor—with the added specification of significant hindrance and long-term use of his body.

The 16-year-old claims that the 15-year-old repeatedly insulted and harassed specific girls at school. He alleges that he called on the younger student to stop this behavior, which led to the subsequent fight and assault.

The girls involved are expected to testify about the events that preceded the incident in court.
