The weekend will bring a fall-like weather pattern with chilly temperatures, strong northern winds, and a few showers. As we approach the October 28th long weekend, temperatures are expected to rise.
On his personal Facebook account, meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafilias emphasized that despite the low temperatures in many areas, even reaching below zero in mountainous regions, rain will mainly be limited to western and northwestern Greece. He also mentioned “light snow dustings” in the mountains of those areas.
Regarding the weather for the October 28th long weekend, Tsatrafilias said that temperatures will return to normal levels, but the forecast for rain remains disappointing.

In his detailed post, Tsatrafilias wrote:
“Halfway to autumn…
While temperatures have dropped noticeably across most regions, and another dip is expected this weekend, the rain accompanying this weather change will be very limited, affecting primarily western and northwestern Greece. In mountainous regions (1,800 meters and above), we may even see some snow dustings.
Also, over the weekend, negative temperatures are expected in the northern mountains, making heating necessary. As we approach the October 28th long weekend, the weather will ‘soften’ as temperatures return to normal levels, but once again, the rain forecast is disappointing.
Have a great weekend!”
The Director of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, Theodoros Kolydas, shared a similar sentiment in his post, writing: “Watching the same (rainless) show.”
Klearchos Marousakis added that northern winds and chilly nights and mornings will dominate the upcoming days, with minimal rain except for the western parts of the country, where stronger phenomena might occur.
Today’s Weather
We expect a few clouds, which will thicken over the western, central, and northern regions of the country. Local showers will occur in the Ionian Islands, gradually spreading to parts of Epirus and by evening to areas of Western Central Greece and Northwestern Peloponnese. There is also a chance of light showers or drizzles in Thessaly and Western Macedonia. Visibility in central and northern inland areas will be locally limited at night and early in the morning.
Temperatures will range from 3 to 16 degrees Celsius in Western Macedonia, 5 to 18-19 in the rest of northern Greece, 7 to 18-20 in Thessaly, 9 to 23 in Epirus, 10 to 23-25 in the western and southern mainland, 8 to 19-21 in the rest of the eastern mainland, 15 to 23-24 in the Ionian Islands, and from 13 to 20-21 in the Aegean islands and Crete, with localized highs of 25-26 degrees in the Dodecanese.
Winds in the Aegean will be from the north-northeast at up to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching 6 Beaufort in the southwestern seas. In the Ionian, winds will be from the east, reaching 4-5 Beaufort, and 6 Beaufort in the southern areas.
