Olga Markogiannaki and Kostas Tsoukalas: Political roots and dynamic careers

From PASP to prominent roles in PASOK, Olga Markogiannaki and Kostas Tsoukalas emerge as rising voices in Greek politics

Newsroom October 21 04:10

Both Olga Markogiannaki and Kostas Tsoukalas took their first steps in politics through PASP, the student wing of PASOK. They are seen as part of the renewal within the party, especially through their involvement in the European Parliament elections.

These two strong figures from the recent European election campaign are now assuming roles as PASOK’s spokespeople for the new political season. Markogiannaki and Tsoukalas both began their political journeys with PASP. After Nikos Androulakis was elected PASOK leader in 2021, they became more active in party affairs, and they are now considered symbols of renewal in the European election ticket. Insiders suggest that Kostas Tsoukalas might run in one of Attica’s electoral districts, possibly Eastern Attica, while Markogiannaki may run in Kozani.

Kostas Tsoukalas
Born in 1985, Kostas Tsoukalas is considered one of Greece’s most reliable social scientists. He has built a highly active and successful career as a lawyer specializing in labor, social security, and banking law since founding his law firm in 2010. Tsoukalas has successfully represented hundreds of borrowers and workers, shaping case law in Greece’s highest courts. His achievements include canceling hundreds of foreclosures and securing major debt relief for over-indebted households, advancing social justice and protection. A graduate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Law School, Tsoukalas holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and Sociology. Active in social and trade union causes since his student days, he is married and the father of three daughters.

Olga Markogiannaki
Born and raised in Kozani with roots in Crete, Olga Markogiannaki is a civil engineer with a Ph.D. from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a Master’s degree from Columbia University in New York. She co-founded a startup that develops innovative tools for predicting building and infrastructure behavior following natural disasters and also leads a spin-off from the University of Western Macedonia. Since her student years, she has been an active member of PASP and the PASOK Youth. Since 2022, Markogiannaki has served on PASOK’s Central Political Committee and Political Council. She is also the General Secretary of the Association of Greek Civil Engineers. She is married and the mother of two sons.
