Theodoros Terzopoulos receives Grand Theatre Award from the Hellenic Association of Theatre Critics

Stefania Goulioti wins best female performance award - Full list of award recipients

Acclaimed director Theodoros Terzopoulos was honored with the Grand Theatre Award of the Hellenic Association of Theatre Critics and Performing Arts for the 2023–2024 season. The second annual awards ceremony took place today at the B&E Goulandris Foundation.

The committee explained that Terzopoulos was selected for his tireless, 40-year career, which culminated in his production of “Oresteia,” performed this summer at Epidaurus and on tour in Greece and Cyprus.

Stefania Goulioti Wins Best Female Performance
Stefania Goulioti received the award for Best Female Performance for her lead role in the production “The Doctor,” staged by the Amphitheatre of Spyros A. Evangelatos. This production is being repeated this year. Argyris Xafis won the Best Male Performance Award for his role in “The Most Beautiful Body Ever Found in This Place,” presented at the Theseion Theatre.

Best Director Award
Katerina Mavrogeorgi won the Best Director Award for her adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s “Jane Eyre” in the play “Jane” at Theseion Theatre. The Best Production Award was given to “The Loser” by Thomas Bernhard, staged by the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera and directed by Hector Lygizos.

In total, 17 awards and the Grand Theatre Award were presented, along with two honorary mentions.

  6. Video Art Award
    Klaas Verpoest – “Monsieur Lin’s Beloved” by Philippe Claudel (National Theatre of Northern Greece)
  7. Best Regional Theatre Production Award
    Serres Regional Theatre – “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes (directed by Evi Sarmi)
  8. Best Children’s Theatre Award
    “Treasure Island” (based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, directed by Thomas Moschopoulos, Porta Theatre)
  9. Best Contemporary Greek Play Award
    “Rayman Screamed” by Giannis Mavritsakis (Sphendoni Theatre)
  10. Best Dramaturgy Award
    Charis Fragoulis – “Thought” by Leonid Andreyev (Sphendoni Theatre)
  11. Best New Actress Award
    Natasha Exintaveloni – “The Seagull” by Anton Chekhov (Proskinio Theatre)
  12. Best New Actor Award
    Giannis Niarros – “The Loser” by Thomas Bernhard (Greek National Opera, Alternative Stage)
  13. Best Female Performance Award

    For continuous activist work that has led to 14 performances across nine correctional facilities since 2010.
  2. “En Dynamei” Group – Eleni Dimopoulou
    A community of young artists with and without disabilities promoting social inclusion through art since 2008.
