The main feature of the weather over the coming days, including on October 28th, will be the northerly winds in the Aegean, limited rain, cold during the night and early morning, while temperatures will rise at midday.
This is due to the persistence of the omega blocker, an anticyclone that has formed over the country, preventing storms from Europe from reaching Greece.
For October 28th, mild weather conditions are expected, with no significant events. There will be no rain, but it will be chilly in the early morning and evening.

“Mild weather without rain and a light jacket until the end of the month,” meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafillias from Alpha mentioned in a social media post.
Meanwhile, the director of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS), Theodoros Kolydas, wrote in a post on social media platform X: “Dry weather and forecast for the three-day period around October 28th, 2024.
It’s worth noting that in 1993, we had a similar situation, and November turned out to be very rainy, while in early November 1977, we experienced a severe storm, which I’ll discuss in another post.”

Kolydas also analyzed the polar Jet Stream in another post, explaining that it will even cause the low-pressure system near the African coast to move backward, a very rare phenomenon. He also mentioned a strong anticyclone developing over Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and our country, which is preventing rain.
“The presence of the polar Jet Stream at very high latitudes with a west-southwest flow, combined with the absence of strong winds in the middle and upper layers of the atmosphere in our region, is ‘forcing’ even the low-pressure system near the African coast to retreat. Instead of moving from west to east, it’s turning backward, which is rare.”
“We’ve often mentioned that the driver of major weather systems in the atmosphere is the Jet Stream, which is like a large river of air with high speeds that directs the movement of air masses. In simple terms, when the Jet Stream flows from north to south (see video), cold air masses will begin to move toward the central Mediterranean, creating favorable conditions for cyclogenesis.
That’s when rain-bearing low-pressure systems will start organizing and move toward our region, coming from west to east and affecting the whole country with rain. We will keep you updated on the development of this situation, and we foresee this atmospheric circulation likely starting in early November.”
Today’s Weather
Today’s forecast expects generally clear weather with locally increased clouds. At night and early morning, visibility will be locally limited in central and northern mainland areas.
Temperatures will range from 2°C to 18°C in Western Macedonia, -1°C to 22°C in the rest of northern Greece, 2°C to 21°C in Thessaly, 5°C to 26°C in Epirus, 2°C to 27°C in other mainland regions, 14°C to 24°C in the Ionian Islands, and 11°C to 25-26°C on the Aegean islands and Crete.
Northerly to northeast winds in the Aegean will reach 6-7 Beaufort, while in the Ionian, generally easterly winds will range from 3-5 Beaufort, with gusts up to 6 Beaufort in the Patraikos Gulf.
