As Authorities investigate three infant deaths in Amaliada, another woman is reporting that her child, aged just 6 months, died in the hands of her friend who she had left him with to look after him. Tragic coincidence that three more infants had died in the hands of the same woman, two of her own and one of another mother who had also left the baby for her to look after.

Katerina, the mother of the fourth infant, spoke to MEGA and revealed how she lost her six-month-old daughter on February 4, 2021. “I as a mother lost my child at the hands of Irene and I will look for it,” she said.

According to her, the young woman has witnessed four deaths of children in three years. “How is that possible? Are all four a coincidence? I as a mother will ask why?” she asked.

The woman described what happened on Feb. 4, 2021, when she went out for a walk and left the 6-month-old girl with the young woman to watch her.

“Irene and I are friends, best friends. I told her to keep my daughter because I had gone for a walk with my partner,” she said. According to her, before she went out, she changed and fed the baby and gave him medicine for a health problem he had.

“A certain person, who I don’t want to mention, called and informed me that the child was ‘gone’ and that Irene had told her. My partner called directly and said to Irene “Tell me what happened with the child” and she turned around and said “Nothing my man, the child is fine”. The child was dead…”, according to his mother.

The cause of death of the 6-month-old girl

According to MEGA, doctors at Karamandaneio told the mother that the baby arrived dead at the hospital, which contradicts what the young woman allegedly said.

“She said the child made a noise and that she immediately called an ambulance when the child was already dead. He said he couldn’t breathe the child. The same thing with the other three that ‘left’, the children were hers and this one in Amalia,” Katerina said.

“The first forensic report came out that said undetermined cause of death. In the process, Irene lost the other two children,” according to the complainant.

“Four children died at her hands”

After the death of the two children, the women mourned together, according to MEGA. But she became suspicious when she learned of the death of the 15-month-old baby in Amalida on August 5, 2024.

“I didn’t believe and I didn’t want to accept that this one could hurt the child because she seemed to love, and die for children. The opposite happened: four children died at her hands, with the same cause of death, that they could not breathe,” she says.

On August 5, 2024, a 15-month-old boy passed away in Amaliada and the young woman was allegedly an eyewitness to the death.

The mother of the 15-month-old infant described what happened in the Light in the Tunnel:

“The child woke up at 10:30 am, drank his milk, we played, he called me ‘mummy’ and played with his toys. By the time I went to another room and came back, I could tell he wasn’t breathing well. He was in his stroller in the living room. Three minutes did it.

I took him straight into my arms to see what I could do. My friend was there and took it from me to rescue it. While Irene had the child, he was fine, breathing, but not very well. I called straight away for a car to come. By then, Irene had it in her hands. We didn’t call the ambulance so as not to waste time. The doctor came out and said to me: “your child is dead.”

Things seemed to get complicated when they arrived at the hospital, where the mother said the child was still alive.

“We took him to the hospital and I immediately asked for a pediatrician. They said I didn’t need it and took me out of the ward. The child was alive, breathing and blinking and blinking. I left him in the cot and after they put a tube in his mouth for oxygen, the doctor told me to get out.

Not even half an hour later the doctor came out and said, “Your child is dead”. How is he dead if I brought him in alive, why is my child dead? I asked what happened, but no doctor answered me. I asked to see it and was denied.”
