Russia has decided to impose a fine of… 2,500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, or 2.5 decillion dollars, on Google in protest over blocked accounts on YouTube.
The fine, with its countless zeros, surpasses the global GDP, which is estimated by the International Monetary Fund to be… a mere $110 trillion.
Google, which owns YouTube, currently has a market valuation of $2.16 trillion.
The fine is to be paid within nine months. Given that the company is unlikely to come up with the required amount promptly, the fine will begin to double every day after the deadline passes.
This astronomical amount has escalated because Google has not reinstated the YouTube accounts of 17 Russian television channels, according to Russia’s RBC News.
Reportedly, the judge in the case remarked in an October 28 hearing that he is dealing with “a case involving many, many zeros.”
