Chrysochoidis: Fatal bomb in Ampelokipi – Unsuitable building after the explosion

Minister warns of rising terrorism aspirations among youth: 'A new generation at a very different time'

Newsroom November 4 09:59

Michalis Chrysochoidis, the Minister of Civil Protection, called the explosive device that exploded in Ampelokipi a “ferocious bomb with concentrated explosive material.”

“From the construction, it caused and made the whole building unsuitable according to the technical services of the municipality, the bomb would have caused a disaster because it would have been very powerful. When you put such a bomb of such power there is unfortunately also collateral damage” added Mr. Chrysochoidis

Asked about the fact that the people involved had contacts with the counter-authoritarian movement, the Minister of Citizen Protection noted that “through activist actions, networks are created that result in extreme actions. There are several activities by people some of whom are upgrading their efforts.”

According to Chrysochoidis, “there was no hole” in terms of checks for such incidents, “there is a need for constant vigilance and monitoring of this sector because it is linked to human life, the image of our country abroad, and social peace. I assure you the services are doing their job very well.”

Asked if we are done with terrorism, the Minister of Civil Protection replied “We are done with big organizations like 17 November and Revolutionary Struggle. Terrorism is never over. The enemy of social peace and security is complacency.”
