Carlos Mazón, governor of the Valencia region and member of the conservative People’s Party, admitted his mistakes regarding the deadly floods in a speech before the local parliament.

Among other things, he apologized for the delays in providing aid to flood victims. This appearance came after a request from the opposition.

“I will not deny that mistakes were made,” said Carlos Mazón during his speech, in which he reviewed the response from himself and his services to this unprecedented crisis, which has so far claimed 224 lives. He also informed the public that 16 people remain missing in his region, a number that may increase the death toll.

“I will not avoid any responsibility,” Mazón added, opening his speech by reminding everyone that these are the worst floods in Spain since 1962.

“Everyone understands that the scale of the tragedy and its consequences are such that our lives will have a ‘before’ and an ‘after,’ and nothing will ever be the same again,” he said.

Additionally, he announced that the People’s Party parliamentary group has called for the establishment of an investigative team by the local parliament.
