Addressing a party event in the central Greek city of Lamia, main opposition SYRIZA party leader Alexis Tsipras called for national elections and underlined that this would be the only proposal on behalf of the government to which SYRIZA could ever agree.
Mr. Tsipras underlined that the troika of Greece’s lenders wants to perpetuate the so-called emergency aid, in order to turn the country into a colony of debt, a destroyed society with no power to resist, no will, no solid relationships.
“Their aim is not the loan. Their aim is the airports, the ports, energy, telecoms and public assets,” Mr. Tsipras said.
“We must proceed to national elections now, before the new harsh measures and agreements, to ensure Parliament reflects the popular will and to elect a president who truly expresses popular majority,” he added.
