42 Greek parties will participate in the European elections on this Sunday, May 25 aiming to get good results and represent Greece in the European Parliament. The voting process will start at 7 am and end at 7 pm. The first results might be expected about two hours after the end of the voting process. However, the official results, are expected to begin to be broadcast after midnight, as according to a European Directive, the results should be announced after the voting process is ended at all polling centres in EU countries.
The Greek political parties which claim the vote of citizens include apart from politicians, many personalities from journalism, sports and arts.
Netherlands and Britain will be the first countries to vote for the European elections tomorrow while the strength of the far-right parties of both countries appears enhanced.
At the same time in France, the leader of the far-right party “National Front”, Marine Le Pen, watches Netherlands where her strongest ally in the campaign of exterminating the “monster of Brussels” will be the first one who will try its dynamic. In the Netherlands, the far-right party of Geert Wilders (PVV) seems to gain a lot of power and desires to form alliances in the new EU Parliament cooperating of course with Marine Le Pen of the French National Front. The aim, as Wilders has said many times, is to destroy the EU from within.
According to all recent polls, Marine Le Pen comes first with 24% as far as voting intention is concerned.
Also in Austria, Denmark and Sweden, the far-right parties are expected to increase significantly their strength, as it is shown by the latest polls.
According to French media, European issues will affect the choice of voters mainly in a negative way, ie as an opportunity to demonstrate the Eurosceptic spirit that spreads in the EU. Consequently, the new European Parliament will be the most “anti-European” in the history of the European Union, with a strong presence of the newly formed “political family”, the European far-right.
A Eurobarometer survey showed that the confidence of European citizens in the EU reduced to 31% from 57 % in 2007. Moreover, it is no coincidence, as The Guardian newspaper mentions, that the same survey showed that the trust in national parliaments and governments are even less (25% and 23 % respectively).
Britain and the Netherlands will be the first to vote for the European elections followed by Czech Republic and Ireland (Friday, May 23), Latvia, Malta, Slovakia and Italy (Saturday, May 24) and all other European countries on Sunday, May 25.
