The prime minister, Antonis Samaras, will end his election campaign by addressing a rally at Syntagma square in Athens increasing the attacks against SYRIZA.
The decision for this rally was taken on Wednesday afternoon after several days of thinking. The aim is to demonstrate the confidence and the power of the prime minister who was criticized for performing a protected campaign avoiding citizens and journalists.
During his speech, Mr Samaras is expected to talk against SYRIZA and Mr Alexis Tsipras referring to all the accusations he has already supported. Mr Samaras will accuse Mr Tsipras of trying to pull the country back to crisis and misery because without the crisis and the memorandum SYRIZA would not be able to exist politically. Of course he will pose again the main dilemma of “political stability and exit from the crisis or political instability and back to the crisis with an unknown future,”. Mr Samaras will repeat its basic promises for growth, jobs and sustainability of the debt and will ask citizens not to allow others to pull the country back.
However, the climate was intense yesterday with government attacking SYRIZA and accusing it for “sending invitation to the Golden Dawn” since the government was based on the open letter of Golden Dawn’s member, Christos Goudis, towards Mr Sakellaridis.
The leadership of New Democracy worries about the results of Golden Dawn in the local and regional elections as well as the possibility of Golden Dawn not only coming third in European elections – which is considered certain – but to come out of this challenge with enhanced strength.
