The family of the 34-year-old man who was murdered at dawn on New Year’s Day after a bloody incident in the centre of Serres is in mourning.
His wife, who is pregnant with their third child, is a tragic figure.
How the deadly clash happened
The incident happened shortly after 5 am on the pedestrian street of Serres on Corfu Street. It all started when the victim – who was probably drunk – wanted to enter a nightclub with two other friends. At the door was one of the perpetrators, who refused to allow the group to enter, resulting in a verbal altercation. The victim’s party left and after about an hour it is speculated that they either made an appointment with the porter’s party, or waited for the club to close, because they met again, this time in an alley next to the city’s main pedestrian street.
Within just a few minutes, the blood boiled over and on top of the melee, the assailants (four in number) fatally wounded the 34-year-old with a knife, inflicting two stab wounds to the left side of his body, specifically to his ribs and groin.
Although the victim was taken by ambulance to Serres hospital, he breathed his last a few hours later.
When police officers arrived at the scene of the bloody incident, they found and confiscated 6 shell casings from a crack gas pistol.
Two of the perpetrators
were arrested.
A short time later two of the four offenders – a 29-year-old man from Albania and a 27-year-old Greek man – were arrested. Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the other two, a 28-year-old and a 30-year-old. A case has been filed in the case on charges of intentional homicide and conspiracy to commit murder.
