These are the Greek tanker tycoons

Greeks continue to lead the way and lead by far in tanker orders - 12.6% of those ordered in 2024 are scheduled to be delivered in 2028 or later

According to a recent report by Allied Shipbroking, Greek/Greek shipowners lead by far in tanker orders, which reach 113, accounting for 16.9% of the world order book for this type of vessel (666). The Chinese follow with 57, the Singaporeans with 43, the Japanese with 27 and the Germans with 23. Greek shipping companies bought 46 second-hand tankers out of a total of 456 that changed hands worldwide in the past year, a 10% share.

The current ratio of the global order book to the fleet in terms of carrying capacity – DWT stands at 13.8%, compared to 7% in the same period in 2023. 52.6% of the total tanker order book is placed within 2024 (61 x VlCC, 44 x Suezmax, 99 Aframax/LR2, 36 x Panamax/LR1, 156 x MR2, 41 x MR1, 155 x Small Tankers (>= 10,000 DWT)).
