As of today, the electronic platform of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is available for married couples to submit requests for separate tax declarations.
The notification can be made via a special electronic application on the website www.aade.gr, either by the taxpayers themselves or by an accountant-tax advisor specifically authorized for this purpose, using their personal login credentials.
The steps to follow are: visit the AADE website, www.aade.gr => Citizens => Income => Notification for Separate Declarations.
According to the relevant page on the AADE website:
Through this service, married taxpayers can notify their choice to file separate Personal Income Tax Declarations. The declaration can be filed separately as long as at least one of the spouses chooses this option, and the decision is binding for the other spouse.
Note: Taxpayers who opted to file separate declarations in the previous tax year do not need to access the application again if they wish to maintain their decision and the marital relationship still exists. However, if they wish to revoke their decision, they must do so through the application. Should they later wish to submit separate declarations again, they must notify the choice anew through at least one of the spouses.
A key advantage of filing separate tax declarations is that the issuance of a tax clearance certificate for one spouse is not blocked by the tax office if the other spouse has overdue debts to the tax authorities.
