Mel Gibson: His Los Angeles home completely burned down – “At least I won’t have plumbing problems anymore,” he joked

The actor was away during the disaster, as he was in Austin, Texas, participating in Joe Rogan's podcast

Even Mel Gibson’s mansion couldn’t escape the devastating wildfire that has been raging in Los Angeles over the past 24 hours, engulfing homes and vehicles in its path and forcing thousands of people to evacuate. However, the actor was not present during the destruction, as he was in Austin, Texas, participating in Joe Rogan’s podcast.

When he returned to his neighborhood, though, he found nothing standing, as he explained during an appearance on NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports. While recording the podcast, he admitted that he knew his neighborhood was burning but was still hopeful his house would be spared. “Obviously, it’s somewhat devastating and emotional. I was doing Rogan’s podcast, and I felt a little uneasy during the conversation because I knew my neighborhood was on fire, so I was thinking about my house and wondering if it would still be there. But when I got back home, it certainly wasn’t,” he remarked.

Trying to lighten the mood, Gibson jokingly commented that at least now his house wouldn’t have any plumbing issues like it did in the past. “When I got home, it definitely wasn’t there. I looked around and thought to myself, ‘At least I don’t have to deal with any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore,'” he quipped.

Despite the humor, he admitted that he lost many personal belongings that cannot be replaced, which saddens him. “Everything, from photographs to records and just personal things I’ve had over the years, and clothes—I lost them all. But everything can be replaced. These are just things. The good news is, you know, my family and everyone I love are safe, happy, and healthy, and that’s all I really care about,” the actor emphasized.

For years, Mel Gibson had been trying to sell his luxury mansion, even after lowering the price by $3 million from its original listing. The property was purchased by the Oscar-winning actor in 2008 for $11.5 million and featured five bedrooms as well as a garden tower.
