Citizens’ service centers (KEP): The myPhoto digital service now available—What it offers

myPhoto for citizens – What applies

Newsroom January 14 02:59

Starting today, citizens who are unable to access the myPhoto service digitally can now use the service through the Citizens’ Service Centers (KEP). Greeks living abroad, elderly individuals without mobile phones, and those lacking digital skills will be able to visit the KEP of their choice to link a photograph uploaded by a photographer on myphoto.gov.gr with their Tax Identification Number (AFM) or, in the case of minors, their Social Security Number (AMKA), for use in digital transactions with public services.

Specifically, the myPhoto Service via KEP Facilitates:

  • Individuals who do not possess TAXISnet credentials to log in to the myPhoto platform, such as Greeks residing abroad who wish to issue an ID card, a driving license in Greece, etc.
  • Individuals without a mobile phone, such as elderly citizens.
  • Individuals who wish to link a minor’s photograph and cannot have the custodial relationship confirmed through the Public Registers, such as guardians of children in care facilities, foster parents, etc. It should be noted that in such cases, the minor’s physical presence at the KEP is mandatory.
  • Individuals lacking digital skills who require assistance to complete the process.

Key Points About the Service

The myPhoto service has been available since 2022 for use by individuals who possess a Tax Identification Number (AFM) and TAXISnet credentials. In June 2024, the service was upgraded to include photographs of minors through an adult, provided that the custodial relationship is confirmed via interoperability with Public Registers.

This service streamlines the process for professional photographers and citizens by enabling the storage and provision of photographs and handwritten signatures for public administration procedures that require their submission. Examples include issuing and renewing driving licenses, ID cards, disability cards, and examination certificates for the Citizenship Knowledge Adequacy Certificate (ΠΕΓΠ). Furthermore, it allows for the reuse of photographs in other public administration processes.

Usage Statistics and Key Details

It is worth noting that over 270,000 citizens have used the myPhoto service for public administration purposes, with approximately 2,000 photographers having completed the process. Photos linked to an individual’s AFM or AMKA are retained for one year, while those not linked are deleted within two weeks. For reference:

  • The service was used for 82,420 driving license cases (issuance and renewal).
  • 11,860 disability cards were processed.
  • 164,880 ID card issuance or replacement cases were completed.
  • 11,360 examination certificates for the Citizenship Knowledge Adequacy Certificate (ΠΕΓΠ) were issued.

Management of the Service

The General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance of the Ministry of Digital Governance is responsible for the design, development, and operation of the myPhoto service. Authorized services access photographs via the Interoperability Center of the General Secretariat, with explicit authorization from the citizen.
