Adonis Georgiades immediately approves fund for cancer biomarker compensation

Discrete "channel" for reimbursement of biomarkers is expected to be included in the 2025 EOPYY budget, a reform that will give "weapons" to doctors and patients in the fight against cancer

Newsroom January 30 11:30

Our country is turning a new page in the treatment of cancer and a long-standing demand of the scientific community is being met, as shown by yesterday’s announcements by the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiades, at the Dialogue on National Cancer Policy held by the Association of Pharmaceutical Companies of Greece (AFEE) at the offices of the European Parliament in Athens.

To date, just over 20 biomarkers have been reimbursed in Greece. These are special tests through which it is determined with considerable accuracy when an oncological treatment can be effective. Biomarkers are an important “weapon” in the quiver of oncologists for the formulation of the treatment plan of oncological patients and the individualization of cancer treatment.
