Explosion at the new Chernobyl sarcophagus protecting the fourth reactor – It was hit by a Russian drone, Zelensky says

No casualties and radiation levels remain stable and normal, assures the International Atomic Energy Agency

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA-IAEA) announced today that an explosion was heard last night from the new sarcophagus protecting what remains of the fourth reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

According to the same source, the explosion caused a fire, but radiation levels inside and outside Chernobyl remain stable and normal.

In a tweet, Zelensky blamed the Russians for the Chernobyl explosion, saying it was caused by a drone carrying a high explosives warhead. The Ukrainian president also spoke of significant damage to the sarcophagus.
