The focus is mainly on Athens where the current mayor Giorgos Kaminis leads by 21.06 % in the first round, followed by the candidate of SYRIZA, Gabriel Sakellaridis, with 20 % and on Piraeus where Yannis Moralis got 33.28 % in the first round of elections leading over Vassilis Michaloliakos who got 31.33 %.

Another fight will be given for Attica region, where the current Prefect Yiannis Sgouros received 22.11 % in the first round of elections followed by the candidate of SYRIZA Rena Dourou with 22.80 % .

The outcome is still open in other five regions. In four of these regions candidates from the two government parties compete each other, with the candidates of New Democracy wanting to oust current prefects who were elected with PASOK.

There will be a big battle at Patras, too where the Communist Party of Greece receiving 25.06 % in the first round of elections with Costas Peletidis has great chances to win a large municipality after many decades.
