Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will not participate in the summit of the so-called “alliance of willing countries”, convened for Saturday by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

According to La Stampa, “Meloni has made it clear to her close associates that she does not intend to support an initiative that does not convince her,” especially since Italy has already decided that it will not send its troops as part of a European initiative aimed at guaranteeing Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

At present, however, the Italian government has not issued an official statement, and the financial newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore (which belongs to the country’s Industrial Association) notes that despite her serious reservations, Meloni has not yet made a final decision.

The summit is set to take place on Saturday via videoconference.
