Greece within the year will launch the Electronic Environmental Registry, which according to Environment, Energy and Climate Change Minister Yiannis Maniatis will be the most modern system of environment licensing in Europe while is expected to speed up the implementation of projects and investments.
According to the ministry, the registry will enable the online submission of environmental studies. An electronic protocol will also be set up, giving a unique code called Environmental Identity to each project or activity that gets an environmental license. The Electronic Environmental Registry will first operate on a trial basis, while its use will become mandatory within the year.
“The ministry remains firmly committed to the full implementation of the law 4014/2011 on environmental licensing and concludes the remaining elements of the legislative framework so that our country can have the most modern environmental licensing system in Europe,” Maniatis said after the signing of the joint ministerial decision on the Electronic Environmental Registry.
