The Turkish authorities had temporarily banned protests in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir after the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul

Newsroom April 10 07:15

Two Istanbul courts today ordered the release of 107 students detained for taking part in rallies after the March 19 arrest of Istanbul’s mayor, the lawyer for one of them told the French news agency AFP.

According to a court order sent to AFP by lawyer Ferhat Güzel, the house arrest of 25 other students was also handed down by an Istanbul court.

Turkish authorities, faced with a wave of protests of unprecedented scale since 2013, announced on March 27 that they had arrested 1,879 people in various cities across the country. They have not issued any further announcements since.
